Nicola Coughlan 'will break your heart' with major role in beloved family favorite special

Steven Moffat has hinted that Nicola Coughlan will deliver a heart-wrenching performance in the 'Doctor Who' Christmas special , 'Joy to the World', after earning huge sums of money for her role on Bridgerton .

The former showrunner, who led the series from 2010 to 2017, spoke highly of the 'Bridgerton' star's role alongside the new Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa, during his chat on 'Ireland AM', after it was claimed she might leave the period drama .

He teased: "Nicola is wonderful in it, she will break your heart."

Although eager to keep the details under wraps, he couldn't help but express his excitement, adding: "I'm not allowed to say anything about it. At least I think I'm not allowed to say anything about it so I'll just shut up."

Moffat also reflected on his temporary return to the sci-fi favourite, finding it surprisingly normal and enjoyable. He quipped about the ease of dipping back into his old role for a single episode, leaving the ongoing hard work to Russell T.

Davies, the current showrunner. Davies himself has stirred anticipation, describing the upcoming special as "mad" and "one of the maddest Christmas specials you'll ever see," promising an epic adventure that explores the essence of the Doctor's character when he's alone.

Nicola Coughlan's addition to the cast was previously celebrated by Davies, who commended her for "bringing joy" to the production.
