    Heat advisory in Triad counties, thunderstorm chances in the evening

    PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. for the Piedmont.  Dangerously hot high temperatures will be in the upper-90s with heat indices between 105° and 107°.

    There is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches from the west.

    Early showers and a few thunderstorms will rumble across the Piedmont until around midnight, then it will be quiet with lows in the mid-70s.

    The cold front is expected to slow down and stall in central North Carolina this weekend, keeping a 50% to 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.  Highs on Saturday will be near 90°, and Sunday’s highs will be in the upper 80s.

    Temperatures will stay near normal, in the upper-80s, Monday through Thursday.  We will also have some relief from drought conditions across the state as well with rain chances ranging from 40% to 60%.
