'I played under Arne Slot and Erik ten Hag - this is why Liverpool boss is better'

Mark Diemers has claimed Liverpool's Arne Slot is better than Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag after playing for both managers throughout his career. The midfielder worked with Ten Hag at Utrecht and Slot at Feyenoord.

The newly-appointed Liverpool boss was unveiled to the press on Friday morning, alongside sporting director Richard Hughes, as the pair discussed the transfer window, the reasoning behind the appointment and the expectations for the upcoming season.

In the aftermath of the Jurgen Klopp era, it is the fear of the unknown for Liverpool fans. As Unai Emery and David Moyes have discovered at both Arsenal and United, it is not always easy being the direct successor to a club legend who was in charge of the team for several years.

However. Diemers has eased a few of the nerves for the fanbase after outlining what working with Slot is like. Discussing who was better out of the Premier League duo, Diemers claimed Slot was better on a 'human level' which will likely go far with both the fanbase and players.

"I choose Arne Slot. I can only talk from my time. I found Ten Hag insanely good tactically, so were his training sessions," he told ESPN Netherlands .

"I just didn't think he was very good, at that time, on a human level. But that was already six or seven years ago. I thought Slot was a lot stronger on a human level.

"Look at what kind of clubs [Ten Hag] has worked at, so he must also have qualities on a human level. I still have contact with him via WhatsApp. Then he also comes across as very friendly to me. He will undoubtedly have grown on a human level as well."

Diemers spent two seasons away on loan during his time at Feyenoord and has since put pen to paper on a two-year deal with AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.

Liverpool.com says: Like Liverpool, United will be entering a new era next season following the minority investment from billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Ten Hag has signed a one-year extension off the back of his FA Cup success last season and the Red Devils will now look to compete with Liverpool once again, as the pair aim to dethrone a dominant Manchester City side in the Premier League.
