Crowley awarded defense freight transportation services contract

On Tuesday, supply chain logistics company Crowley announced it had been awarded a $2.3 billion contract with U.S. Transportation Command.

The seven year contract will provide transportation and logistics services to the Defense Freight Transportation Services program. Crowley was awarded the original Defense Freight Transportation Services (DFTS) contract in 2017. One of the larges contracts under the federal government, the DFTS covers all forms of freight surface transportation throughout the Continental United States, Alaska, and Canada.

As DFTS provider, Crowley has received multiple high-performance ratings from USTRANSCOM, and praise from the Defense Logistics Agency. With the new contract, Crowley said it will continue to use small businesses and diverse suppliers to help drive investment and resiliency across the country. Crowley said its network of carriers and suppliers has grown by over 500 percent, tripling the minimum capacity needed to service the more than 300,000 annual movements of critical equipment and supplies.
