Lincoln County could see 110 degrees today

Lincoln County is under a heat advisory today, Friday, July 5.

The National Weather Service in Jackson issued the advisory, in effect from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. for all of central Mississippi, and portions of northeast Louisiana and southeast Arkansas.

Heat index values of up to 110 degrees are expected. Hot temps and high humidity can cause heat illnesses.

The NWS advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and in air-conditioned rooms, if possible, and check on relatives and neighbors.

Take extra precautions when outside, such as wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Symptoms include: pale, clammy or cool skin, or heat rash; excessive sweating; muscle cramps in arms, legs and stomach; dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, unsteady gait, fatigue, fast breathing or heartbeat, and dark-colored urine.

Seek immediate medical attention by calling 911 or your local emergency number for symptoms that include cool, moist, pale skin, rapid pulse, elevated or lowered blood pressure, nausea, loss of consciousness, vomiting or a high body temperature.
