Chicago area has 3 of the nation's wealthiest suburbs: Report

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new ranking of the nation’s wealthiest suburbs is out, and it includes three from the Chicago area.

The three Chicago suburbs were the only suburbs from the entire Midwest to make the list, which was recently released by finance publication GOBankingRates . The report looked at all U.S. cities with at least 5,000 households.

Hinsdale ranked No. 7, with an average household income of just over $380,000 and a typical home value just over $1 million.

A bit further down on the list — 30th and 40th, respectively — were North Shore suburbs Lake Forest and Wilmette. Lake Forest’s average household income was reported to be about $285,000, with homes at $1.1 million.

The report placed Wilmette’s average household income at $274,000 with typical home values at $896,000.

The wealthiest suburb in the U.S. was Scarsdale, N.Y. — which is located just outside of New York City, Newark and Jersey City, N.J. — with an average household income of $569,000 and homes priced at $1.4 million.
