    Excessive Heat Warning in Effect for Central Virginia and Tidewater Regions

    Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - An excessive heat warning is in effect for the Central and Tidewater areas of the Commonwealth from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 5.

    8News weather experts say heat index values in the afternoon will be between 105 and 110. With this in mind, citizens are reminded to:

    • Drink water and stay hydrated;
    • Never leave pets or kids inside a parked vehicle;
    • Find shade or stay in air conditioned areas when possible;
    • Reduce strenuous activities;
    • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing;
    • Check on neighbors and loved ones while the warning is in effect.

    Officials say the best course of action until 8 p.m. is to stay indoors as much as possible.
