Are the Braves at any risk of missing the playoffs?

The Atlanta Braves have continued to struggle. After dropping the series to the San Francisco Giants over the 4th of July holiday, the team sits only nine games over .500 and nine games back of the Philadelphia Phillies in National League East.

John Fricke, filling in for The Steakhouse on Friday morning, is concerned. He concerned that Braves fans are far too confident that this team will just waltz into the postseason without being pushed.

"There is nothing that I see that gives me any reason, as currently aligned, any reason whatsoever to believe that the Braves' offense is going to wake up this year," John Fricke said about what ails the team right now. "And I am of the firm belief that the Braves are in trouble of not making the playoffs."

To his point, the Braves only lead the race for the Wild Card by 2.5 games and there are nine different teams in the National League within 4.5 games of the lead.

Last night's game with the Giants highlights one of the glaring issues with the team right now: they just are not scoring enough runs. The visitors scored their fourth run of the game in the sixth inning, and that was all she wrote for the Braves.

Why's that? It's because the team has not won a game since April 17th in which its opponent reached that threshold -- a seemingly unfathomable stat.

Fricke's confidence in the team is clearly rattled. During his segment, he only gave the Braves a 40 percent chance of reaching the postseason as they continue on their current pace.

"I'm just talking about a snapshot of right now," Fricke said. "But this is as unimpressed and unbelieving in the Braves as I have been since the last year at Turner Field."

A lot can change over the next week as the NL East leading Phillies come to town before the Braves head out west to play the Diamondbacks and Padres ahead of the All-Star Break. After that, they will 67 games left to right the ship.
