Volunteers build new fence, deck for the family of Lt. Hoosock

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — This community-led project was all hands-on deck.

Dozens of volunteers rolled up their sleeves this past weekend, to build a brand-new fence and deck for the family of fallen Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy Lt. Michael Hoosock, who was killed in the line of duty in April.

Off-duty officers, retired deputies and others taking the time to create the new space for Hoosock’s wife and three young kids.

According to Onondaga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Association’s President, Laura Collins, a deputy saw the need for a new fence and deck and put the project in motion.

Home Depot donated a majority of the materials and gave a helping hand throughout the construction process. Although the forecast wasn’t cooperative with construction, between 50 and 60 people put on ponchos and dodged raindrops to get the job done.

“The completion of this project not only serves as a tribute to Lt. Hoosock’s selflessness but also demonstrates the unity and compassion that exists within our community.  It is a reminder that, in times of need, we can come together to support one another and make a positive impact,” said Laura Collins, the president of Onondaga County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Association (OCSPA).
