Combining two desserts into one is the secret to creating a delectable treat. This Tiramisu Brownies recipe certainly fits the bill as it infuses rich brownie batter with the nutty and creamy flavors of tiramisu. To make prep a breeze, the batter is made from store-bought brownie mix and tiramisu filling uses frozen whipped topping. While this recipe takes a little bit longer to prep, it’s worth it as two classic treats come together in these delicious, mix-easy squares.

If you want to give this recipe a twist, substitute red velvet brownie mix for regular chocolate — which will add a mild cocoa taste. Also, you can prep these brownies ahead by baking and cooling the treat the night before. Be sure to cover them and let them sit at room temperature. The next day, remove the covering and proceed with the remaining steps in the recipe.

    Ingredients

    • 1 (18.2 oz.) pkg. fudge brownie mix
    • 1⅓ cups brewed coffee, cooled
    • ⅓ cup oil
    • 1 egg
    • ½ cup chopped hazelnuts, toasted
    • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, at room temp.
    • ¼ cup confectioners’ sugar
    • 1 tsp. almond extract
    • 1 (8 oz.) cont. frozen whipped topping, thawed
    • 12 crisp ladyfingers, from 7-oz. pkg.
    • ½ tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
    • Coffee or hazelnut liqueur (optional)

    Instructions

Heat oven per brownie mix directions. Line 9" square baking pan with enough foil to overhang sides by 2"; grease. Stir together brownie mix, 1⁄3 cup coffee, oil and egg. Stir in nuts. Spread in pan. Bake until toothpick inserted into center comes out with crumbs clinging, 23–25 min. Cool.

On medium speed, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth; beat in extract. Fold in topping. Spread half over brownies. One at a time, dip ladyfingers into remaining coffee; place on filling to cover. Spread remaining cream cheese mixture over top. Cover; chill at least 4 hrs. Lift from pan. Sprinkle with cocoa. Serve portions topped with liqueur.
