First KISS, Next Mötley Crüe? Nikki Sixx Says “Put Us in a Coffin and Fire up Those Avatars”

Besides helping form Mötley Crüe and playing bass for the heavy metal band, Nikki Sixx also held the title of primary songwriter. Part of numerous bands throughout the years, many remember Sixx for his time with the Mötley Crüe, but the songwriter also worked with stars like Steve Jones, Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, and Lita Ford. Having spent nearly 50 years in the spotlight, Sixx watched the industry change numerous times over the years. And with technology seeming to expand with each passing month, the musician recently discussed the possibility of Mötley Crüe continuing on as digital avatars.

With KISS ending their career on stage, the group decided to celebrate their last show by revealing what the future held for the band. Showcasing digital avatars of themselves, the band promoted an entirely new show that would feature the avatars and not themselves. With many singers and musicians weighing in on the idea, Sixx said, “I don’t know what the future holds. We did some stuff with holograms years ago before the technology was really fleshed out. At some point, we’re not gonna be here anymore. I mean, not to be a Debbie Downer, but it’s just not gonna happen.”

Wanting his legacy to continue on, Sixx added, “How great for your band, or whatever it is that you do, to be able to go forward for generations and generations. So I think when the time is right, put us in a coffin and fire up those avatars.”

Nikki Sixx Watched Technology Bring “Dogs Of War” To Life

Knowing the importance of promoting new music and concerts, Sixx embraced the idea of technology as a tool to help bands achieve success. “I love technology. I think as long as it’s coming from an artist that says, ‘I have something I wanna do and this technology is gonna help.’ Like with the video ‘Dogs Of War’.”

While fans enjoyed “Dogs of War”, the music video used technology to help bring the video to life. Directed by Nick DenBoer, the video is animated using CGI. Able to bring their wildest idea to life, Mötley Crüe quickly learned the power that technology possesses.
