LeBron James Expected To Start For Team USA At 2024 Olympics

LeBron James is expected to start games for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic , LeBron James is unlikely to come off the bench for Team USA. Sources told Vardon that he will be starting as the power forward for Team USA, with point guard Stephen Curry expected to play off-ball.

“James coming off the bench, probably won’t happen. I spoke with two USA Basketball sources and both cast serious doubt on the idea… James, the sources said, will likely play point forward for the Americans as a starter, moving Curry off the ball.”

Despite being 39 years old, LeBron James is still one of the best players in the world and put up incredible numbers last year in the NBA. Last year, James played 71 games and averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds. He also had his best year from the three-point line, shooting 41% from beyond the arc.

James has one of the sharpest minds in NBA history, and a court vision almost second to none. So entrusting him with the ball to make plays for him and his teammates is the smartest decision that can be made. While players like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are good ball handlers, they would be much better off letting James get them some clean, open looks.

Team USA are considered the heavy favorites to win their fifth consecutive gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In response to their poor performance at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, several NBA superstars committed themselves to Team USA, including Joel Embiid, who was previously expected to join the French national team.

LeBron James And Stephen Curry Went From Rivals To Teammates

This tournament will mark the first time we see LeBron James and Stephen Curry as teammates in a competitive basketball environment. Outside of the NBA All-Star game, Curry and James never played together on a team. Curry wasn't part of any of the Team USA rosters that James was on, and the same goes for James.

In fact, the two have only now gone on to soften their stances toward each other. At one point, they had one of the most heated rivalries in the NBA. Both James and Curry led their teams, the Cavaliers and the Warriors, to four consecutive NBA Finals.

Curry got the better of LeBron in three of those series, but James will always be able to say that he led the Cavs to come back from 3-1 down to win the 2016 NBA championship. A clip of James and Curry trash-talking each other during the 2018 NBA Finals shows just how heated their rivalry was at its peak.

Fans will be excited to see LeBron and Curry put aside their rivalry and team up together at the Paris Olympics. If the NBA All-Star games where they have been on the same teams are any indication, fans will be in for a treat watching the two NBA legends take to the court at the same time.
