Labour ’s Jess Phillips fought back tears as she was quizzed about the booing she received during her election seat victory speech.

Ms Phillips, who won the Birmingham Yardley seat in the general election, called British politics “caustic” and “nasty”.

She explained how she did not meet “these people shouting and screaming” behind the doors during her campaign.

“People were kind,” she said with a tremor in her voice during a Channel 4 interview on Friday (5 July), “people were thoughtful.”

The jeers reportedly came from Palestine supporters, prompting Ms Phillips to add that many people in her constituency were dissappointed in the Labour Party, which will now have to “win back their trust”.
