Tampa, Fl - A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy was critically injured early Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue. Deputy Kalin Hall, an 11-year veteran and member of the K-9 unit, attempted to pull over a black BMW. The driver fled, leading Hall to initiate a second stop on Plantation Oaks Drive. During this second attempt, the suspect rammed the deputy.

Bodycam footage released by the sheriff's office shows Hall activating his emergency lights and approaching the vehicle. The driver then accelerated rapidly, striking Hall. Hall can be heard in the video requesting medical assistance, saying, "He ran over me. I need EMS. My leg's broken."

Hall was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he is undergoing surgery for a fractured leg. Officials report he is in good spirits but request thoughts and prayers for his recovery.

Authorities found the suspect's vehicle abandoned about a mile from the scene. The vehicle's owner has been identified, but it remains unclear if they were driving at the time of the incident.

Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned the suspect's actions, stating, “This suspect’s actions have no regard for human life, choosing to ram a deputy without considering that his reckless actions could tragically impact the deputy’s life. Our deputies come to work committed to making a difference in their community with every call for service, but also knowing how dangerous this career can be, putting their lives on the line every day.”

The sheriff's office is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 813-247-8200.
