The Euro 2024 quarterfinals are here and it doesn't get much bigger than Kylian Mbappe's France going up against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

In what is almost certainly the 39-year-old striker's last European Championship, Ronaldo will be hoping he can take matters into his own hands and fire his country to a spot in the semifinal.

His tears of frustration, and then relief were clear for all to see as Portugal edged a penalty shootout victory over Slovenia in the last round, and the Selecao will need to be at their best if they are to end a dismal run of one win in their last 14 matches against France.

Mbappe has hardly lit up Euro 2024 himself, a broken nose playing a big part in that, but he'll need to find his shooting boots too if France are to reach the semifinals for the fourth time in the last five major tournaments.

The Sporting News is following Portugal vs. France live, providing score updates, commentary and highlights as they happen.

Portugal vs. France live updates, highlights from Euro 2024

75 mins : Cancelo makes way for Semedo in a straight swap. Rather more surprisingly, Fernandes is off for Conceicao. That means a shift into central midfield for Silva.

74 mins : Dembele has sent the entertainment value through the roof here. He cuts in off the right and curls over the far post.

73 mins : Dembele again, giving Leao a taste of his own medicine. Pepe clears at the near post. Semedo and Concaicao set to come on for Portugal.

70 mins : Oh, Camavinga, no! Dembele has really lifted things since coming on and finds Camavinga in space, inside the Portugal box. It's on the Real Madrid man's weaker right foot but he has to do better than dragging wide from there.

67 mins: Dembele is on for Griezmann and straight into the action as he sets of Mbappe for a shot that Mendes blocks at source.

66 mins : Now a huge France chance! Kolo Muani doesn't effectively retrieve a Griezmann pass but then drives towards goal and exchanges passes with Kounde to get into the box. Dias makes an excellent last-ditch challenge and Kolo Muani's shot bounces just wide.

63 mins : Vitinha has to score! Leao picks out the midfielder who hits his shot straight at Maignan, who gets to the ball ahead of Ronaldo on the follow-up. Corner.

61 mins : Fernandes! Brilliant save from Maignan . Cancelo plays a deft pass through to Fernandes. He fires across goal but Maignan is equal to it. Cancelo latches on to the follow up and blasts over from outside the box.

59 mins : Leao the player in this game who looks most like breaking it open and he's on the charge again. Camavinga stays with him and makes a wonderfully measured challenge inside the box. That leads to another Fernandes corner that France clear.

58 mins : The mask is back on and Mbappe is carrying on but he still looks to be in discomfort.

54 mins : Fernandes' corner finds Silva unmarked at the far post. Mbappe blocks the header with the side of his head. Ooof, that's going to hurt with his broken nose. Mbappe is still down and needs treatment.

52 mins : Now France's left-back gets forward. Hernandez flashes a ball across goal but there's no one there.

50 mins : Mendes bursts into the France box and then throws himself to the floor with Upamecano close by, Michael Oliver rightly give a goal kick but I've no idea why Mendes hasn't been booked.

49 mins : Better from Mbappe, some neat interplay before Costa saves his shot from outside the box,

    Kickoff: 2nd Half

We're back with fingers crossed for some goalmouth action. No changes for either side.

    Halftime

Lots of little bits to delight the purists but very little to quicken the pulse. Portugal now 289 minutes without a goal in a competition where still no France player has scored from open play. So, of course it's 0-0.

42 mins : Well! Fernandes steps up, with Ronaldo doing his adonis stance thing as a decoy. The Manchester United star's effort is decent but doesn't dip enough. Over.

41 mins : Kolo Muani lumbers into Vitinha about 30 yards out. Is this where the Ronaldo free-kick saga continues?

35 mins : The corner goes short and Mbappe retrieves after the eventual cross is over-hit. France poke and probe but there's no way through. For better or worse this feels like a high quality training match at the moment.

34 mins : Fernandes's chance to snap into some smart defending after France's patient build-up catches fire, with Camavinga teeing up Griezmann.

30 mins : Deft work from Mbappe and Kolo Muani should play in Griezmann. He delays, Portugal hunt as a pack and Pepe steps in with a magnificent tackle.

28 mins : They work it short. Saliba heads Fernandes' eventual cross away and France can break. Mbappe has to wait for support after leaving Mendes on the turf and the chance has all-but petered out before Camavinga slams over the bar from range.

27 mins : Leao takes Kounde one way then the other and beats him comprehensively. Upamecano clears behind for Portugal's fifth corner.

25 mins : Pepe fouls Camavinga. Crossing position for Griezmann. Ronaldo gets up to make the aerial clearance.

22 mins : Mbappe engineers a bit of space with a burst of pace past Cancelo. Costa pushes his attempt away from the goalmouth and Vitinha tidies up.

20 mins : Saliba gets his head on Fernandes' latest corner. France manufacture a break, Griezmann picks up the pieces. Now Hernandez larrups one from 30 yards, Costa saves the stinging shot.

16 mins : Fernandes takes aim from 25 yards. Deflected wide off Saliba. Portugal cranking up the pressure a bit.

15 mins : Maignan takes an awful touch to haphazardly concede a corner. He atones by unfussily claiming Fernandes's delivery.

12 mins : Special stuff from Leao, who releases Mendes with an improvised backheel. The full-back wallops the cross beyond everyone. As you'd expect, Ronaldo is fairly unimpressed.

11 mins : Fernandes with a left-wing corner. He mishits it and Kolo Muani thumps away.

8 mins : Nuno Mendes is looking to get high up down the left whenever Portugal attack, which could have the knock-on effect of disrupting France's midfield diamond. Tchouameni gets back to clear his cross.

3 mins : It's been a really bright start from France. Portugal have barely had the ball. Now Leao gets them forward but Hernandez clears.

    Kickoff: 1st Half

After two particularly stirring renditions of two great anthems, we're underway in Hamburg.

15 mins to KO: Spain are on the horizon in the semifinal for tonight's winner!

30 mins to KO: Will Diogo Costa be Portugal's hero again tonight?

45 mins to KO: No changes from Martinez as he backs the same XI to get the job done on Portugal's BIG night. Camavinga will add balance to France's midfield but Antoine Griezmann has struggled in a wider position so far at Euro 2024.
