Hezly Rivera, at age 16, is the youngest member of the U.S. Women's Gymnastics roster heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Rivera joins veteran superstars Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, and Suni Lee.

Rivera, who actually had her sights on making the 2028 Olympic roster, earned her spot on the elite squad after a slew of devastating injuries befell three gymnasts at the U.S. Trials -- Skye Blakely, Shilese Jones, and Kayla DiCello.

During a live stream on YouTube, former gymnast MyKayla Skinner, who won an individual silver medal on vault at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but did not earn a spot on the women's team, criticized the 2024 Olympic roster.

"Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t what it used to be. I mean, obviously, a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic,” Skinner said.

At one point during the over two-hour live stream, Skinner appeared to forget Rivera's name and mispronounced it. Rivera's older sister, Carhelis, directly called out Skinner on her Instagram Stories.

"Kind of funny that you didn’t know how to pronounce my sister’s name especially since she was on national TV,” Carhelis posted, along with a photo of Skinner and Rivera at the 2018 Hopes Classic.

"I’m sure you heard the commentators say her name correctly every time," she added. "Also, you personally handed Hezly a medal at the Hopes US Classic 2018 in Utah."

Numerous fans also called out Skinner for mispronouncing Rivera's name.

Rivera, however, has full support from her actual teammates on the Olympic Team. “We’re really excited to kind of show her the ropes,” Biles said, per NBC . “And at least she doesn’t have to do it alone. She has four veterans that have been there before."

Rivera, the 2023 U.S. junior champion, admitted that she was "shocked" to make the roster. But the high-school junior is excited to live out her Olympic dream.

“I’m going to document everything," she said. "Keep memories of it and just be the happiest version of myself. Because I made it here.”
