Sweet Mailman Letting Golden Retriever ‘Help’ Deliver Mom’s Mail Is Just the Best

Golden Retrievers were bred to carry things in their mouth. They were bred to be helpful. When they can combine both of those things, it's like a match made in heaven, both for their humans and the pups themselves.

One mailman knows this well; there's no telling how many dogs he sees on route, but it's pretty clear that he definitely has a favorite. On Thursday, July 4th, the dog's mom posted a video of her Golden Retriever "clocking in" to help out his mailman bestie:

Mr. Finnegan the Golden Retriever is the sweetest boy. He's so lucky the mailman is kind enough to let him help out with delivery!

Finnegan is somewhat famous for his sparkling personality. He wants to be everyone's best friend; he knows how pretty he is, and he knows how to get what he wants. Luckily, he chooses to use his powers for good, like getting the mail and swindling mom out of an extra treat!

It seems like they do this every day: when the mailman pulls up, he places the paper in Finn's mouth immediately, and it looks like he even says hello to him. The entire exchange is completely harmless, and a lot of postal workers will tell you that getting to meet all the different dogs in a neighborhood is one of the best parts of the job. After enough time on a route, the dogs will start to recognize them!

Do Not Expect All Delivery Workers to be Pet Friendly

In Finnegan's case, his regular mailman doesn't mind seeing him every day. He makes his job easier! Even still, mom is outside to supervise the whole time, and she got permission from the mailman to film the interaction.

While most delivery workers won't mind an interaction with your dog, you should still make sure you keep your dog fenced in or on a leash to prevent them getting too close until you clear it with them. You can do so by asking directly or leaving a sign that makes it clear that they can pet the pup if they happen to outside at that time. There's usually a spot for delivery instructions that you can use, too!

Having a secured area of your yard that's separate from the area where you receive deliveries is the best way to ensure that nothing bad happens to anyone. They'll be able to watch the delivery person from afar, and from there, they can decide whether they want to interact with the dog or not. They'll appreciate you!
