    Citrus County Fire Rescue training captain killed in July 4 boating incident

    CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. (WFLA) — The Citrus County Fire Rescue announced that one of its training captains died in an off-duty boating incident on July 4.

    A CCFR release stated that Captain Michael Fletcher, 42, was on the Crystal River when the incident happened. However, the details of what happened are not yet known.

    “Captain Michael Fletcher was a pillar of our department, known for his dedication and compassion,” Fire Chief Craig Stevens said. “His loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.”

    According to the release, Fletcher spent about 20 years working with the Marion County Fire Rescue and six years with the Citrus County Fire Rescue.

    During his time as a CCFR training captain, he instructed firefighters on safety and rescue standards.

    “I am deeply saddened by the death of one of Citrus County’s own, Captain Michael Fletcher,” County Administrator Steve Howard said.  “I extend my deepest and utmost condolences, to Captain Fletcher’s family, and to each member of Citrus County Fire Rescue on the loss of a brother.”

    As of this report, the details of Fletcher’s memorial service have not yet been finalized.
