DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Montgomery County auditor has certified that all scales used during the fair will be fair and accurate.

Preparations are underway for the Montgomery County Fair, which runs Sunday, July 7, through Saturday, July 13. While farmers prep their livestock for judging, Auditor Karl Keith is working to make sure competition will be accurate and fair.

Keith and a team of weights and measures inspectors arrived at the fairgrounds on Friday, July 5, to certify the scales used for the upcoming livestock competitions.

There are five scales in total for various animal sizes, like cattle, hogs and chickens.

Keith says certifying the scales is an important responsibility for the weights and measures inspectors at the Auditor’s Office.

“It’s important for us to come out and make sure the scales weight accurately,” said Keith. “The young people who spend time with their animals over the past year, raising these animals, they spend a lot of time with them. It’s important that they be treated fairly and that their work is fairly judged.”

The Montgomery County Fair is happening all week. Alongside seeing the livestock, Keith says visitors can check out the Auditor’s Office exhibit on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. to learn more about what weights and measures inspectors do throughout the year.
