Newcastle United is reportedly considering offering Anthony Gordon a new contract in response to Liverpool's interest in the player.

Gordon was recently proposed to Liverpool as Newcastle was looking to generate funds ahead of the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) deadline on June 30. However, negotiations fell through when Jarell Quansah was asked to be part of the transfer deal.

The Telegraph reported that the 23-year-old was open to a move to Anfield and had been discussing it with his England colleagues during their time at the Euros. His agent was also said to have been 'pushing hard' for the move.

However, according to the ECHO , while there was indeed contact between the two clubs, Newcastle's demand to include Jarell Quansah in the deal was a stumbling block as Liverpool see him as a key part of their team. Things are now settling down with Newcastle's urgency to sell high-profile players easing after cashing in on Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson.

However, after initial contact was made, it's not off the table that Liverpool might reconsider signing the winger. The Chronicle Live suggests that Newcastle's new sporting director, Paul Mitchell, will now gauge the seriousness of Liverpool's interest by reaching out to Gordon and his team, reports the Liverpool Echo .

It's also reported that the PSR situation at Newcastle has caused unease among several first-team players, leaving more questions than answers due to the club's reluctance to trade players. The report further suggests that the Magpies could offer a new contract to the Everton academy graduate, whose current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

That would only increase his transfer valuation by strengthening Newcastle's negotiating position. However, the player could theoretically resist signing new terms if he does, indeed, believe a move to Liverpool is possible and a path he wants to take.
