MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Following last week’s presidential debate, questions remain about whether the Democratic Party will keep President Joe Biden as their candidate for the White House.

State Rep. Sam Jones (D-Mobile) says it would be difficult to take Biden off the ticket on short notice.

“I don’t know how it will turn out,” Jones said. “I just hope that we would think about the country as a whole moving forward.”

Political Analyst Steve Flowers said Democrats must move quickly if they are going to replace Biden.

“They’ve got to rally the troops and get organized for a revisitation of the presidential nomination quickly because ballots are being printed around the country,” Flowers said.

However, House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels (D-Huntsville) believes switching candidates is beyond unthinkable.

“I don’t even want to entertain this, and neither should the people who are watching this right now,” Daniels said. “If you’re not working to re-elect this president because of the delivering things that he’s done, then none of us should be running in this party.”

State Sen. Robert Stewart (D-Selma) has full faith in the incumbent’s ability to continue to lead.

“Our country has made great strides under his leadership,” Stewart said. “I look forward to being a delegate at the Democratic National Convention to cast my ballot committed to President Biden and continue the progress that we’ve been making.”

The Democratic National Convention will take place from Aug. 19th to 22nd in Chicago, regardless of the party’s nominee.
