Bill to allow driving without doors in Pennsylvania advances

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Currently, Jeep and Bronco drivers must have doors on their vehicles unless they are going off-road in Pennsylvania, but that could soon change.

SB 298 , introduced by Senator Devlin Robinson (R – Allegheny), would change the safety guidelines and would make it legal for vehicles to be driven without doors.

In his memo, Robinson said that he is working to create legislation that would still require the Jeeps and Broncos to have side-view mirrors when the doors are taken off, and keeping protections in place for minors.

Pennsylvania is the only state where it is illegal to drive without doors.

A member of the Jeep community made Robinson aware that Pennsylvania is the only state that has the law and wanted something to be done so “others in Pennsylvania can enjoy the same freedoms that every other state provides,” Robinson said in his memo.

The legislation passed the House Wednesday and the Senate passed it in March, so it now heads to Governor Josh Shapiro’s desk.
