CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Hurricane Beryl has been causing lots of problems in the Caribbean.

The storm slammed into the island of Jamaica as a category 4 hurricane with winds of 140 mph.
The hurricane is now impacting the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico as a category 2 hurricane with winds of 110 mph.

How to prepare for hurricane season in New England

Over the weekend, Beryl will move over the Yucatan Peninsula and weaken to a Tropical Storm before entering the Gulf of Mexico.

Once Beryl moves over open water in the Gulf of Mexico, the storm will likely strengthen to at least a category 1 hurricane with winds of 80 mph before impacting southern Texas.

There is no threat to us here in western Massachusetts.
