BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper was one of the victims of a crash on Wednesday at a stop sign in Butler County.
The KHP posted pictures of the wrecked vehicles on Friday and indicated distracted driving was to blame.

“It’s no secret that distractions lead to crashes,” the KHP posted on Facebook. “Taking your eyes off the roadway puts you at an increased risk for being involved in a crash. Thankfully, all involved in this crash were wearing seat belts and will be OK. Always remember to put all distractions, including GPS, away while driving.”
The crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Southwest 70th and Santa Fe Lake Road.
A KHP lieutenant driving a Dodge Durango stopped at the stop sign at the intersection. The KHP says a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 22-year-old Virginia man failed to stop, hit the Durango and pushed it into a Cadillac ATS that was also stopped at the stop sign. Five people were in the Cadillac, including three children.
The KHP crash report did not list any injuries to the other people, just to the 48-year-old lieutenant. He was taken to a Wichita hospital to be checked for a suspected minor injury.
