The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District this past month awarded $1000 Lindy Hamlett Education Scholarships to four deserving students from Amelia and Prince Edward County. These scholarships will provide financial support in the 2024-2025 school year for students majoring in, or showing a strong desire to major in, a curriculum related to conservation and/or environmental studies.

District officials said a number of both high-school seniors and full-time college students in Nottoway, Amelia and Prince Edward counties applied for the award.

This year’s recipients are 2024 Amelia County High School graduate Tristan “T.J.” Penny, 2024 Prince Edward County High School graduates Thomas Hamilton and Abigail Reamer, and Prince Edward County resident and Virginia Wesleyan University student.
