‘I literally can’t post anything,’ Threads users rage over ongoing ‘upload’ issue – just months after global Meta outage

USERS are lashing out at Meta over technical errors in the Threads app, with some claiming the platform is unusable.

launched in 2023 and was billed as "Instagram's text-based conversation app." Its interface frequently draws comparisons to that of X, formerly Twitter.

While the app reached an all-time high of 175 million monthly users earlier this week, some are raising the alarm about consistent bugs.

Around the same time Threads reached its milestone - just days short of its one-year anniversary - whispers began to circulate about errors with the app's upload function.

"Every time I try to post something - be it starting my own or responding to someone else's - I get the above error," one Reddit user wrote in a post from July 3.

He noted the problem persisted regardless of whether he used the mobile or desktop version.

Other users affirmed that they were experiencing issues, with one claiming that the problem had gone on for days and rendered the platform useless.

"I have the same issue for 2 days in a row now. I literally can’t post anything because of this," one user proclaimed.

"I have exact same error since yesterday: I cannot record any audio or type any text," another Redditor wrote, noting that she had deleted and re-installed the app, to no avail.

Yet another user claimed to have found a workaround by posting media first and adding text later via the "edit" function.

Meta has yet to comment on the apparent bug, but this is not the first time technical issues have arisen.

Facebook and Instagram experienced a two-hour-long global outage in March following a "technical issue."

The platforms were up and running again on March 5 after hundreds of thousands of users reported being locked out of their accounts.

Users claimed they had been signed out and were unable to log back in, even after attempting to change their passwords.

The widespread nature of the outage led many to speculate about a massive hack, sparking rumors of foreign interference.

At the time, the White House National Security Council said it was not aware of any specific malicious cyber activity.

There were more than 550,000 reported disruptions for Facebook and around 92,000 for Instagram at the height of the outage, according to Downdetector.

Other services like Facebook Messenger and Threads - which can only be accessed through an Instagram account - were also affected.

Amid the swirling gossip, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone published a statement to X.

"Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services," Stone wrote.

He confirmed that the issue had been resolved but declined to elaborate on its source.
