BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Every two years, the State of Ohio does a county-by-county study on the impact of tourism.

That study was just released, and it revealed an uptick in numbers for Belmont County.

They found the economic impact of tourism in Belmont County is $281 million dollars.

Local leaders say the county’s parks, museums, natural beauty, eateries, festivals, shops, and more have generated a total of $36 million dollars in tax revenue alone.

That direct visitor spend is a 16% increase from what happened in 2021, so not only are we bringing people in, they’re spending money but it’s ultimately relieving our Belmont County residents. Each household is getting a tax burden relief of over $700 because of the revenues that are brought in from tourism.”

Jackee Pugh, Executive Director, Belmont County Tourism

Belmont County ranked second in Ohio tourism business sales out of the 18 counties in the southeast region.

And local leaders say Belmont County has activities and events all the time.

On Friday, fireworks will be at the Zion Retreat and RV Park.

Saturday at Barkcamp State Park is the celebration of the Ohio State Parks’ 75th anniversary.

And the Barnesville Independence Day celebration is also on Saturday.
