Tourism rises with temperatures during the summer

LANSING, WV ( WVNS ) – The sunshine and warm weather has been driving people in the Mountain State to seek more outdoor activities as of late – especially during the summer months.

Adventures on the Gorge employees are readily available to take on the rise of tourists visiting the state. One of the ways visitors beat the heat is with the water activities!

Field Coordinator Molly Mckeown said the river is one of the top attractions in the area.

“We love to take folks out to do stand-up paddle boarding. We also have flat water kayaking. The best part of the river is you get to cool off and anything is cooler than in-town,” said Mckeown.

Mckeown said the summertime also has the most foot traffic. She said she has also seen an increase in visitors since the announcement of Summersville Lake as a State Park.

“It’s a big uptick and it’s really exciting for this area so we can show people why we love West Virginia so much and everything this great state has to offer,” said Mckeown.

Ample outdoor opportunities continue draw people into the wild and wonderful wilderness of West Virginia for vacations and family fun as they look for new places to spend their summer.

Extended sunlight hours also come into play, providing more time out in the sun to enjoy summer fun here in the Mountain State.
