CAL FIRE's updated online wildfire map shows aircraft movements, live video

State fire officials have unveiled a newly upgraded online map to provide residents with timely information on wildfires.

CAL FIRE's Incident Map displays information about all wildfires handled by the department that reach 10 acres in size or above, representatives said.

"Californians and concerned loved ones can now get near-real-time updates on wildfire incidents through CAL FIRE’s newly upgraded incident map," according to a CAL FIRE statement. "The Incident Map now offers rapid updates on wildfire acreage and containment, incident maps, evacuation information, and aircraft flight paths."

The map now includes live video feeds of ongoing wildfires in partnership with ALERTCalifornia, a public safety program based at the University of California, San Diego.

It also features information on topics including Red Flag Warnings, smoke and haze forecasts and past wildfires dating back five years.

Seventeen active wildfires were listed on the website on Friday afternoon.

CAL FIRE is responsible for fire protection services for 31 million acres of California's wildlands and provides emergency services in 36 of the state's 58 counties.

The informational map can be found online at fire.ca.gov.
