CABELL COUNTY, WV (WOWK) — Cabell County Schools Superintendent Tim Hardesty says he wants to restore funding to the Cabell County Public Library and the Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District, according to a press release from the district.

A special board meeting will be held on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. where board members will vote on the transfer and allocation of funds that would “reflect a restoration of funding to CCPL & GHPRD inclusive of equalization payments for fiscal year 2024-2025,” according to a press release.

If approved, the estimated total transferred to the Public Library system would be $711,324.02, and the allocation amount would be around $590,420. For the Park and Recreation District, $223,737.02 would be transferred, and $185,750 would be allocated, according to the press release.

These numbers are not final as the final equalization amounts will be calculator later this month or early next month, and released in August, the press release says.

The meeting agenda says Superintendent Hardesty “recommends adoption of the [Fiscal Year 2026 to Fiscal Year 2030] Excess Levy Order as presented.” According to the press release, if the excess levy is approved by the board, voters can vote for it in the general election on Nov. 5, 2024.

They say this will not raise taxes if voters approve it in November.
