Fans of General Hospital are slamming the show's writers for the latest possible romance.
Friday's episode of the hit soap opera saw Trina Robinson (played by Tabyana Ali) and Gio Palmeri (played by Giovanni Mazza) bonding over their grief. Trina shared her sadness over losing her boyfriend Spencer Cassadine (played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez ) while Gio shared that he lost his mother when he was a child.
"I used to imagine a future with him and now none of it will ever happen," Trina told him, "And even though I know that he’s gone I expect him to look up and see him coming through the door.”

Gio responded: "It’s like you can still feel the person you lost. Sometimes you can only feel their absence. I lost my mom. I was 10.”"
The sweet exchange wasn't perceived well by fans. After watching Trina and Spencer's love story and dubbing the couple "Sprina," loyal fans to the couple think the show is having Trina move on too fast.
"Why can’t they show Trina going through the phases of grief??" one fan wrote on Twitter, now known as X, "This whole 'take her offscreen until a teenager with a violin comes around' idea is really disrespectful. Trina’s grief shouldn’t be swept under the rug."
Another viewer added: "Seem like they don’t want her to go through the grief process at all. Especially for her first love. So instead they Just toss her into another relationship. This is so cringy."
Spencer and Trina were spending time in Paris together, as Trina was going to university there. While on a romantic boat trip, a spiteful Esme Prince (played by Avery Kristen Pohl) followed them and drugged Spencer who was able to throw both him and Esme overboard before she could get to Trina.
Esme and Spencer were never found and pronounced dead. This isn't the first time that fans think Trina is moving on too fast and not being allowed to grieve, and some blame it on General Hospital trying to "replace" Nicholas Alexander Chavez.
A fan declared: "GH trying to hard to replace Spencer with Gio. It isn’t working." Nicholas stepped away from the show to film the second season of Netflix's Monster series.
Created by Ryan Murphy, the first season focused on Jeffrey Dahmer who was portrayed by Evan Peters. This upcoming season will focus on the Menendez brothers who murdered their parents in 1989. Nicholas will portray Lyle Menendez while Cooper Koch will play Erik Menendez.
