On the heels of rumors that Shane McMahon could possibly join WWE competitor AEW, a veteran of World Wrestling Entertainment made a shocking case for the No. 2 company in the industry to bring in disgraced WWE founder Vince McMahon.

While there is no doubt that AEW is the top competitor to WWE in the professional wrestling business, the promotion that quickly grew a sizable fanbase has not been delivering the impressive numbers it once earned with ease.

Television ratings are down significantly from two years ago, and ticket sales have been shockingly low over the last year. It has created speculation about what the company must do to turn things around, and many point to CEO and head of creative Tony Khan being the biggest detriment to the brand.

It’s part of the reason why the idea of Shane McMahon is not as far-fetched as it would have seemed in 2022. There have been rumblings of interest from Vince McMahon’s son in potentially joining AEW . However, on a new edition of his podcast , WWE and ECW veteran Stevie Richards took things way further.

“I would go as far as to say try to get Vince,” Richards said. “That would be nuts. You’re talking about a guy who has a chip on his shoulder right now. Don’t think because he’s 77, 78 years old and he walks with a cane and he has a villain mustache that this dude doesn’t miss the fight. He’s fighting now for a lot of different things in court and legal stuff but he still has it in him to want to.”

The WWE founder is currently dealing with an ongoing lawsuit that includes some heinous sexual assault allegations. It’s why he was forced out of the company permanently last year. It is highly unlikely that AEW would take the risk of the public relations fallout and bring in the wrestling legend.

However, expecting the unexpected is a tradition in pro wrestling.
