CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — West Virginia has another candidate for governor, this time from a well-known former delegate, who has launched a third-party bid.

Marshall Wilson from the Eastern Panhandle wants to be West Virginia’s next governor. He’s previously served in the House of Delegates as a Republican before switching to independent.

This year, he’s running for governor as a candidate from the Constitution Party, but he still needs more signatures for his name to be on the November ballot.

Wilson said that the public is dissatisfied with the major party candidates: Republican Patrick Morrisey and Democrat Steve Williams.

“You saw that in the primary. I’m from Berkeley County and in my county, 17% of the registered voters showed up to vote. 17%, I mean that’s insane. And yet we determine that these people who are elected actually represent the majority. Well, the majority doesn’t even vote,” Wilson said.

Wilson needs to reach 8,000 signatures by Aug. 1 to get his name on the November ballot but is still short by about 2,000 signatures.

There will likely be other third-party candidates on the ballot for governor this year, including the Mountain Party’s Chase Linko-Looper, and Erika Kolenich, who is the Libertarian Party candidate.
