A brush fire that erupted in Santa Barbara County sent up towering columns of smoke over Los Padres National Forest land Friday afternoon.

The blaze had exploded to an estimated 4,673 acres before 11 p.m.

No update on the size was available early Saturday. But the blaze was reported to have made a significant run to the west overnight, Los Padres officials said. The fire is burning in grass, brush and timber near Zaca Lake.

The Lake Fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. Friday in rugged terrain, according to Santa Barbara County Fire Department reports. Size estimates grew from about 500 acres before nightfall to nearly 5,000 a few hours later, according to Cal Fire .

Photos posted on social media showed the massive head of smoke spreading over a large area.

Firefighters had evacuated the Zaca Lake Resort in the Santa Ynez Valley, the fire department's spokesman, Scott Safechuck, reported on social media. The lake is northeast of the town of Los Olivos, located along Highway 154.

Santa Barbara County's Office of Emergency Management issued an evacuation warning around 9 p.m., meaning residents should be ready to leave, for Figueroa Mountain Road from the Forest Station to Chamberlin Ranch. Authorities had also closed Figueroa Mountain Road at Midland School.

Safechuck posted late Friday night the temperature was 90 degrees and relative humidity 9% in the fire area.

Separately, a brush fire broke out in Thousand Oaks Friday afternoon near the junction of southbound Highways 101 and 23.
