Rumors of Al Roker’s passing are relatively regular. He’s a familiar face whose past health issues are common knowledge, so his absence from NBC Today typically has fans thinking the worst. We’ll cover whether Al Roker is still alive or not and why fans are so quick to jump to the conclusion that he’s died.

Is Al Roker still alive, or did he pass away today?

As of writing, Al Roker is still alive. He did not pass away today, and any claims he did are false. It’s unknown what caused the rumor of his death to begin circulating (this time), but as far as we know, he hasn’t had any major health scares recently.

Rumors about Al Roker passing away in 2024 are fueled by his past health history. NBC Today and Roker fans have been on edge since November 2022 when Roker missed the show for a few days, only for it to turn out he was being treated for blood clots in his lungs. When he returned to Today on January 6, 2023, he revealed that his health issues had been considerably more severe. During the two months he was away he experienced two bleeding ulcers, internal bleeding which required surgery, colon resection surgery, and his gallbladder was removed.

In 2020, Roker was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to have his prostate removed. He’s also had two knee replacements and a hip replacement. However, the health issue he’s best known for is his gastric bypass, which was performed in 2002. Before this, many associated Roker with his large figure, but since the surgery, he’s dropped to a healthy weight and even wrote a book about the experience called Never Goin’ Back: Winning the Weight Loss Battle For Good in 2013.

If you’re concerned about whether Roker had died or not, the first place to check would be NBC Today. The show’s social accounts will assuredly be among the first to share the news with the public.

Of course, we wish Roker the best and hope he has many years of good health ahead of him.
