Los Angeles Rams' key position group gets no love in national rankings

In an offseason of change, the Los Angeles Rams still may have a glaring weakness.

Though on offense the Rams still have customary names like Kyren Williams, Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, it is the defense – specifically the secondary – that has raised some concern.

The Rams' secondary sits No. 26 in the league, according to Pro Football Focus' latest position rankings.

"The Rams heavily relied on youth in 2023, and it came with the expected mixed results. This offseason, they brought back cornerback Darius Williams, who had a career year in 2023 with the Jaguars," writes John Kosko. "They also added safety Kamren Curl and the oft-injured CB Tre’Davious White. Curl has shown to play at a high level (82.9 grade in 2022), and White can be a shutdown cornerback, but the Rams will need both to step up in 2024."

To sure up the already suspect secondary, the Rams added John Johnson III., bringing back the veteran safety for the second straight year.

Johnson didn’t earn a starting role until the second half of last season but the Rams clearly liked the way he played enough to add him to the mix again at safety.

Only time will tell if bringing Johnson back is the boost a suspect position group needs to be successful.

Behind the Rams in rankings include the Minnesota Vikings (No. 27), Indianapolis Colts (No. 28), Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 29), Washington Commanders (No. 30), New York Giants (No. 31), and Arizona Cardinals (No. 32).
