If you’ve ever visited Europe, you may have observed that the locals maintain a healthy weight. Despite their fondness for bread, cheeses, and butter, they appear slender, whether young or old.

This can be hard to believe as Americans, especially since many of us focus on protein goals and healthy fats and still cannot shed unwanted pounds. But perhaps we should look at what the French eat for breakfast and consider why it’s working for them.

Check out this video from June 28 to see if you would enjoy a typical French child’s breakfast.

I could get on board with Isabelle’s (@ isabellebertolami ) daughter’s breakfast. It looks just as delightful as a French kid’s traditional after-school snack . Let’s be honest: who wouldn’t want to wake up to a cup of hot cocoa made with real milk and a fresh baguette slathered in creamy butter and blueberry basil jam? It would certainly give me the motivation to get out of bed. But as lovely as this breakfast might be, it might also make you wonder why they aren’t morbidly obese.

The Difference Between French and American Diets

The French have distinct mealtime habits, including sticking to a strict schedule and eating smaller and balanced portions. Unlike us, who often eat on the go, the French take the time to savor their food and enjoy the experience. They also prioritize fresh, real foods, going to the grocery store daily instead of weekly to ensure they get the freshest ingredients. Their daily trips to the store also help them burn more calories, and their daily habits include more walking overall. While they eat bread, butter, and cheese, they are not ultra-processed like those in America. Notably, the French don’t feel guilty about enjoying their favorite foods and don’t have the same constant focus on dieting that many Americans do. It may also be because they don’t use large amounts of sugar, pesticides, artificial flavors, and colorings.

People were familiar with this delightful breakfast. Viewer @Stylinlikeaceleb responded, “My son is also Franco-American, and he literally has the same breakfast you show here every morning.” I might consider having it, too. Viewer @JenniaLoree revealed, “And my French husband still eats this as his snack.” Why not? Others questioned the lack of protein in this breakfast, but Isabelle pointed out, “Milk is a great source of protein!” That’s an excellent point.

If you’ve been looking for a reason to make your own bread , having it for breakfast each day might be your motivation. Not only will you have an unprocessed option, but after making it yourself, you might slow down to enjoy it.
