Despite Meghan being in a similar boat to Kate when she wed Prince Harry , as an outsider without aristocratic roots joining the Royal establishment, the pair found it hard to forge a bond.
It was later clarified, however, that Meghan was the one who ended up in tears, and Harry confirmed that Kate had sent flowers to say sorry.
Yet, Tom Bower's book 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors' throws more logs on the fire by alleging that Meghan unfavorably compared Charlotte to her best mate Jessica Mulroney's daughter Ivy.
Unnamed sources in Mr Bower's book are cited as saying Meghan "compared Princess Charlotte unfavourably to her best friend Jessica Mulroney's daughter".
MailOnline reports that the book suggests Kate was "tired" after giving birth to her third child, Prince Louis, just a month before the wedding.
The now-Princess of Wales was said to be "too fatigued" to debate with Meghan about whether the bridesmaids should wear tights or not, despite Royal tradition indicating they should.
The Duchess stood her ground, believing that her bridesmaids did not need to wear tights, a stance supported by her former close mate Jessica Mulroney.
There was also a tiff over the length of Princess Charlotte's dress, which Kate reckoned was both too scanty and ill-fitting, according to the biography.
Kate was left quite aggrieved by Meghan's refusal to budge on certain issues, but Meghan later conveyed her perspective in the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview with her and Harry.
Meghan recounted: "She [Kate] was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she bought me flowers.
"A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining - yes, the issue was correct - about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry, and it really hurt my feelings."
