Toni Kroos has apologized to Spain's Pedri after his early foul in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals left the 21-year-old with a knee injury.

Pedri had to be substituted after just 9 minutes of Spain's 2-1 extra-time win on Friday and his further participation in the Euros is unclear.

Several Spanish media reports on Saturday said he is out of the tournament but coach Luis de la Fuente was more optimistic after Friday's game. Spain face France in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

The robust challenge was one of the last major acts of Kroos' football career, as he retired after the game.

"Sorry and get well soon," the 34-year-old former Real Madrid star wrote on Instagram on Saturday to the Barcelona midfielder. "Of course it wasn't my intention to hurt you. A speedy recovery and all the best. You're a top player."
