Songs That Stayed the Longest on the Billboard Hot 100
By Nixza Gonzalez,
13 days agoMany artists dream of seeing their songs rank on the Billboard Hot 100. Some are successful, staying on the Billboard Hot 100 for months or in some cases years.
The Billboard Hot 100 is a standard record chart that is updated weekly. It’s published by the magazine, Billboard. So, how do songs make it on this list? And what makes them rank higher than others? The Billboard Hot 100 considers a few things including music sales and radio airplay. Albums are also ranked similarly but on Billboard 200. ( Check out our article on albums that stayed the longest on the Billboard 200 .)
The Billboard Hot 100 is not new. It’s been around since 1913, however, the first list published was Last Week’s Ten Best Sellers Among the Popular Songs. A lot has changed since then.
Music holds a lot of meaning. Songs can move people, tell stories, and even inspire generations. Some musical artists are especially good at this, landing on the Billboard Hot 100 multiple times. Repeat artists include Train, Justin Bieber, and Halsey. Their songs have stayed on the list for longer than 52 weeks. The shortest song that stayed the longest on the Billboard Hot 100 remained for 52 weeks. But what about the longest? What are some of the longest, and just how long did they stay? Follow along to find out.
Methodology
To determine the songs that stayed the longest on the Hot 100, 24/7 Tempo reviewed historical data on chart performance from the Billboard Hot 100. Songs were ranked based on the total number of weeks for which they were on the Hot 100 charts. Chart data is current through June 8, 2024.
