Human remains found near home of missing man in Pickens County

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C.(WSPA) – The Pickens County Coroner’s Office and Pickens County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after human remains were discovered Saturday morning.

According to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, investigators were called to the 100 block of Shivers Lane Saturday morning after what appeared to be the body of an adult man was found in a nearby wooded area.

The sheriff’s office said individuals using land grading equipment in the area found the remains in a heavily wooded area.

“They stopped everything they were doing and called 911 and got a deputy out here. And they said they thought that it also looked like human remains. That’s whenever our office was notified to respond,” said Chief Deputy Coroner Andrew Wilson.

Wilson said the remains were found near the home of Justin Scott Gasper, who went missing in May.

“The sheriff’s office was just mentioning that just because of the fact that they’ve been out in this area searching for that missing subject,” said Wilson.

Investigators are working with forensics and testing DNA of what was mostly skeletal remains. The sheriff’s office said there are no signs of foul play.

Investigators have yet to identify the remains, and are continuing to investigate.
