'My neighbor soaked kids with sprinklers then wondered why she wasn't invited to our block party'

Many of us have had to deal with nightmare neighbors , but where do you draw the line with them? That's the issue facing one Reddit user, who took to the platform to ask whether they were in the wrong for not inviting their neighbor to a block party after she terrorized locals, including kids.

The man explained how he had organized a community block party and chose not to invite one neighbor due to the fact that "people don’t like her". He said: “I live in a little neighborhood, a lot of kids and grandmas. The community is pretty nice besides one person. A new woman moved in by the hill in the fall. She is right next to the park where people hang out.

“The problem is she is mental about her property. She has a very big area and there is no line from the park to where her property is. If your ball goes over she will come out [and] tell you to get off her property.”

He went on to explain that the school bus for the neighborhood kids stops outside her property and "like 40 kids get on in the morning". Because there are so many kids waiting to get the bus, the poster revealed that they "don’t all fit on the sidewalk" and so some "will stand on the grass".

Clearly annoyed by the children standing on her grass, the man explained how the neighbor turned on her sprinklers and "soaked all the kids before school", despite the fact that they weren’t messing up her garden and were simply standing waiting for the bus. He also said that when it was snowy "she yelled at a group of kids having a snowball fight" when they "went over the line".

He added: “So basically no one in the neighborhood is fond of her. The kids don’t like her, the parents don’t, and even the old ladies find her to be destroying the peace.

“We are supposed to have a block party in about two weeks and I organize it. This year I got a petition to not include her. I also moved it so it would be on the other side of the park so no one would be anywhere near her property.”

When the woman realized that she hadn’t been invited to the block party she confronted the poster and asked where her invite was. The poster explained that he told her the other neighbors didn’t like how she acted and thought she was "a jerk".

While he explained that he felt "morally conflicted" over the situation, he also added that the cost of the block party comes out of the "neighbors' pockets" and that it’s up to the neighborhood in regards to who attends the party. Reddit users were quick to comment on the post, with one saying: “You told her the truth when asked. Soaking kids with sprinklers is over the line of acceptable behavior. You could talk to the school or city about that.”

While a second added: “If you're unpleasant and a jerk to your community, you can't be surprised when they don't invite you to the community block party. People are saying that everyone should stay out of her yard and yeah, sure. But installing sprinklers to spray a bunch of school students getting on the bus? That's just an AH move.”

However, some other Reddit users disagreed, with one writing: “It's her property and she is entitled to keeping people out of it. Kids standing there everyday will ruin the grass. She doesn't need to and shouldn't have to put up a fence for people to respect her property. With that said, if it's a true block party that's in the street then YTA. If it's in your backyard/property then you can invite whoever you want.”

And a second adding: “Kids wouldn't get wet if they were not on her land, 'they got soaked' so they couldn't move 2 feet away?.... They stood in the mist till they were soaked through?? (As far as I know sprinklers aren't a full powered jet stream of water, it's a light continuous mist, doesn't sound like she’s standing there with the hose or buckets to douse them with).”
