Andy Murray received touching words from Kate Middleton after being dealt a blow when Emma Raducanu pulled out of their anticipated mixed doubles match at Wimbledon.

Andy, age 37, was set to pair up with 21-year-old Raducanu for a game this evening at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club; however, Raducanu reported she felt "some stiffness" in her right wrist.

Kate, who recently gave fans an update on her cancer treatment , took to the social media profiles of the Prince and Princess of Wales to share: "An incredible Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy_murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C".

Those with tickets to the event would have been downhearted by the news which also marks a poignant moment for Murray, who was honoured on Centre Court last Thursday following his men's doubles opening round loss, playing with his brother Jamie.

This tournament was to be Sir Andy's farewell to Wimbledon as he plans to retire later in the year.

Yet Raducanu shared in a statement, "Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight. I'm disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care."

Murray was unable to secure a new partner because the pairings had been set.

Judy Murray, the 37-year-old's mother, shared her surprise over Raducanu's withdrawal from the match with her son on X, branding it "astonishing".

Commenting on X, sports host Marcus Buckland called attention to Murray missing out on another shot at Wimbledon mixed doubles glory. "Astonishing news that Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her mixed doubles match with Andy Murray," stated Buckland. "She's citing soreness in her right wrist. It means Murray has played his last match at Wimbledon. Oh dear!"

Addressing Buckland's remarks, Murray's mother concurred with: "Yes, astonishing."

The Princess of Wales continues her break from Royal duties during preventive chemotherapy for cancer. Diagnosed earlier this year, Princess Kate has spent most of 2024 away from public engagements.
