NEW POLL: Biden Regains Some Ground Lost To Trump After Debate, Including in Swing States

President Joe Biden regained some lost ground following his poor debate performance against Donald Trump, reducing the gap that had widened in multiple key swing states amid the fallout.

On Saturday, Bloomberg/Morning Consult released a new poll showing Biden regaining against Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin. Moreover, Biden appeared to narrow Trump’s lead in Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and North Carolina.

The survey also indicated Trump’s lead over Biden has shrunk to 2% across seven essential states with a lead of 47% to 45%. Per Bloomberg, this is the closest margin Biden has gained to overtaking Trump since October of last year, showing not only regaining lost ground but exceeding some pre-debate polling.

Trump, however, maintains a strong lead over the president in the battleground state of Pennsylvania with 51% support while Biden held 44%.

Recently, Biden has faced calls to resign following his disastrous on stage performance at CNN’s debate where he struggled to answer questions without stumbling and had a raspy voice. Media pundits, donors, and some Democratic lawmakers have urged Biden to step aside before the convention and allow another Democrat to face off against Trump in November.

This was the first poll released by Bloomberg following the June debate.

“While the first 2024 presidential debate appeared to alarm some Democratic leaders, our surveys of swing-state for Bloomberg News show the matter has done little to change the underlying dynamics of the contest,” said Morning Consult US political consultant Eli Yokley in a statement following the survey’s release.

However, the poll may be an outlier in the overall presidential polling since the debate. According to Real Clear Politics, shows Trump with an average lead of 3.3% against Biden nationally, while the last two surveys released have Trump beating the president by six percentage points.

Bloomberg’s poll conducted their survey questions amongst 4,902 registered voters in seven swing states between July 1-5 with a margin of error of 1%.
