An eerie manor where " horrific abuse and killings " are alleged to have taken place has been dubbed the "most haunted" in Ireland .
Woodlawn House, located halfway between Ballinasloe and Athenry in Co Galway , was once the residence of the Trench family and is reputed to be one of Ireland's most haunted buildings.
The property's unnerving history has come to light in a recent TikTok video which delves into the sinister background of the county landmark, which has left social media users both fascinated and spooked.
TikTok user 'HistoricIreland' explained: "The Trenches were known to treat the people that worked at the house very badly. When other Lords would visit, it is said that they would abuse the staff physically and sexually .
"Many of the female servants ended up becoming pregnant and it is rumored some of these babies were killed and others were sent away for adoption . A lot of women took their own lives due to this trauma, coupled with the very poor living conditions."
The grand Italianate building was constructed in the late 18th century by Frederic Trench, 1st Baron Ashtown, and underwent significant extensions and renovations in the mid-19th century.
The house sits on an enormous 11,000-acre estate, and the Trench family were so influential that they had a railway station built on their property .
The TikToker reported feeling an intimidating aura from the building , which stands isolated in the middle of nowhere. The site also nearly became the filming location for a 1999 cult movie classic.
The account went on: "A number of the crew who produced the indie horror movie The Blair Witch Project were touring around Ireland a number of years ago.
"They were trying to put a list together of the most haunted places in Ireland . They decided that Woodlawn House was the most haunted but didn't even manage to stay the full night in the house ."
The crew weren't the only ones to feel uneasy. One user said: "When I was on the road across the building , at one point, there was a very loud bang that came from the direction of the house .

"There wasn't anyone to be seen around the place. It was very strange." Another explained: "It is true about the noises. I lived five minutes away from this house when I was young and me and my friends went there one night and we could here crying , doors banging and foot steps. It was scary as hell."
