Liverpool rivals watch as Chelsea finds 'next Diego Costa' and wants full-back transfer

We're all excited to witness Arne Slot's first season in charge of Liverpool - but what is Chelsea up to?

Chelsea's summer recruitment drive is in full swing, with as many as six new signings potentially being announced before mid-July. The Blues kicked off their business with the free transfer of Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham in early June, swiftly followed by the arrival of Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa. Marc Guiu has since been given the go-ahead to sign, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has joined Enzo Maresca in making the move from Leicester City.

It's also believed that Chelsea is on the brink of signing Aaron Anselmino from Boca Juniors. But the London club isn't stopping there. Reports suggest it has agreed a transfer for Renato Veiga. The Basel player is set to undergo a medical and is understood to have agreed personal terms with the club.

No sell-on clause is included in the deal. The Athletic suggests that new Chelsea head coach Maresca plans to use Veiga as an inverted full-back. Veiga has primarily played as a defensive midfielder for the Swiss club, but the Portugal U21 international also plays as a center-back for his country, offering versatility for the new coach.

Chelsea has also tabled a bid for Samu Omorodion, only to be knocked back by Atletico Madrid, The Sun claims. This development follows three-and-a-half weeks after reports of a rejected proposal following discussions between the clubs. Despite being seemingly discouraged from making further bids at that time, Chelsea has persisted.

The 20-year-old forward, often likened to ex-Atletico and Chelsea frontman Diego Costa - a comparison Omorodion has acknowledged and expressed his appreciation for when queried - remains a target for the Blues.

Liverpool.com says: Reds fans shouldn't be too worried about Chelsea this coming season. The Londoners have spent a ridiculous amount of money in recent years with little return. Chelsea looked impressive toward the end of last season under Mauricio Pochettino - losing just one of its last 15 Premier League games - but a change of management has destabilized the Blues again.
