    2024 Washington County summer baseball roundup

    A pair of Maryland Little League state tournaments kicked off Saturday. The Intermediate tourney began at Clear Spring, while the Junior tourney got under way at Rising Sun.

    Hub City 5, Rising Sun 1

    Josiah Harris went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI doubles, leading Hub City past Rising Sun in the winners' bracket semifinals at Clear Spring.

    Hub City will play in the winners' bracket final Sunday at 3 p.m.

    Hub City broke open a scoreless tie with a four-run fourth inning. Jerimiah Bryant drove in the first run with a groundout, Jerrius Dykes hit a two-run single and Harris added his first RBI double.

    Harris added a second RBI double for an insurance run in the sixth inning.

    DJ Washington started and pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out eight. Ben Fogle struck out four in two hitless and scoreless innings of relief, and Dykes struck out two in the seventh. Dykes also finished with two hits.

    Maryland Junior Tournament

    Valley 13, Montgomery County 8

    Maki Cain and Isaiah Seering had three hits and two RBIs each, Jonah Croteau had two hits and three RBIs, and Valley scored at least two runs in five different innings to stay a step ahead of Rising Sun in its state opener at Rising Sun.

    Max Byrd and Michael Shaffer added two hits each for Valley, which finished with 18 hits -- with 11 of 14 players getting at least one. Valley has averaged 16.3 runs per game in its three tournament contests this summer.

    Valley will next play Sunday at 2 p.m.
