Right Proper Brewing Coming to Eckington

Construction will soon begin on what is certain to be northeast DC’s new favorite watering hole. Right Proper Brewing Company, already a Shaw favorite, is opening a new location, this time in the Eckington neighborhood.

According to paperwork filed with the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration, Right Proper Eckington’s upcoming home at 1625 Eckington Place, N.E., Suite 100, will be able to accommodate up to 225 customers inside, with 182 seats. Guests will be able to enjoy their food and drink al fresco in a summer garden with space enough for 25.

Right Proper Brewing’s owner Leah Cheston tells What Now DC that the Eckington location will follow the model set by its Shaw sibling. She explains “The concept will be similar to our Shaw location, a full kitchen with a 7-barrel brewhouse.”

Right Proper Eckington’s menu will also take inspiration from its predecessor. Cheston states “Guests will be able to enjoy some of the favorites from the Shaw kitchen – fried chicken sandwich, beer-battered cheese curds, and Thai chili Brussels sprouts.” The beer selection, however, will be more lager and traditional ale focused.

Right Proper Eckington will begin construction this month, with Cheston anticipating a late 2024 or early 2025 opening. The establishment will offer dinner, seven days a week, and weekend brunches, Friday through Sunday.

The brewpub is certain to become an indispensable part of the local community. Cheston sums up the Right Proper mission statement, saying “We aim to be a neighborhood gathering place, where friends can gather for happy hour after a climb at Bouldering Project, or grab a meal before heading to movie night at Alethia Tanner Park.”
