Dublin's charm extends beyond its city centre. Sure, the heart of Dublin City is brimming with activities, sights, and experiences. but it's often worth venturing beyond the city's core for some truly stunning experiences.
Malahide is home to one of Dublin's finest parks, Malahide Castle and Gardens. The castle, dating back to the 12th century, offers tours that can be booked in advance.
In addition, the remaining 260 acres of parkland estate surrounding the castle are open to the public. Here, you'll find ample green space, a large playground, and woodland walks.
There's also a butterfly house at the back of the castle that you can pay to enter.
Charming pubs
Malahide boasts a number of charming Irish pubs, one of which is the renowned Gibney's, a staple since the 1930s. So iconic is this pub that it has recently opened a branch in New York, with plans for another in the pipeline.
Other notable watering holes in Malahide village include Duffy's, Fowler's Market, and Gilbert and Wright.
As for dining options, given its seaside location, Malahide offers an array of seafood restaurants such as Fish Shack, Seabank Bistro, and That's Amore.
Additionally, highly-rated establishments like Siam Thai, McGovern's, Town Yard Modern Bistro, and Mint Cottage offer diverse culinary experiences.
For those who enjoy a scenic stroll, the walking path from Malahide to Portmarnock offers stunning coastal views. Starting at Malahide Beach, the trail leads to Velvet Strand in Portmarnock.
On a sunny day, expect a lively atmosphere and the occasional ice cream truck.
