Baseball: Govs added new piece to coaching staff before this season

BISAMRCK N.D.– When you think about the Govs coaching staff, you think about all the experience that comes with guys like Mike Skytland and Blaine Steiner. However, this year they have a new addition, pitching coach Christian Medick has joined the staff.

Despite Medick being a new addition to the coaching staff a lot of the players are already familiar with what he brings to the table. Medick has experience as the pitching coach for Bismarck High School, so a number of players are comfortable with his style of coaching.

“He’s a great guy. We actually met with him, so 15 year old year, we didn’t know who was going to be our coach that year, and he was in tryouts and stuff,” Michael Fagerland said. “Even since then, we’ve loved him, so getting to see that he’s on this team. he’s a great coach for BHS, so it’s been fun having him around, he brings a good energy to the dugout.”

the addition of Medick to the coaching staff isn’t just a positive for the players either… Medick comes in with a different perspective that benefits the coaching staff as well.

“Christian is, he’s a high energy guy. That rubs off on the players, and I think, you know, some new ideas are always fun,” Mike Sytland said. “You know he’s got a lot of experience, he’s seeing stuff at a lot of different levels, so having Christian on staff is really something that’s exciting for me as a head coach, and the kids really are buying into it too.”
